To do list for the garden
- Put down weed suppressant fabric in the vegetable garden and top off with bark mulch
- Build two more arches for beans, cucumbers, etc, in the veg beds.
- Enlarge the new bed for field crops by about a meter to enable us to have a 3 year rotation for cabbage, alliums, and potatoes.
- Take out the central bed in the pollytunnel. Put in a low bed around the outside, that will enable us to sow salad in winter and put pots for tomatoes, peppers, etc. on to it in summer. Put in shale for the floor. Put in an irrigation system.
- Put in a generous top layer of organic compost in all the beds once they are cleared in late autumn.
-Spray the corner to kill the Japanese bind weed, finish tidying the wood pile, put down concrete blocks for the fire pit.
- Weed the front corner of the driveway and plant with the flowers that are still in pots, move any relevant plants from the back flower bed.
- Take out all the keeper plants from the back flower bed, Take out daffodil bulbs, weed thoroughly and let the weeds come again, spray to kill couch grass. Move plants back into the clean bed including daffodil bulbs.
- Burn the branches of the quince tree that was killed by fire blight. Take down the rest of the tree and cut up for firewood.
- When finished flowering severely cut down the lilacs and fushia, cut down the hazel for bean poles for next year. Make sure the Acer is free and unshaded. Weed under that bed.
- Put down weed suppressant fabric in the back where the dining set is going to go (once we buy it), acquire a large bag of shale to cover perhaps next month.
- Weed the rose garden
- Cover half of the percolation area with weed suppressant plastic. Start putting in the herb beds behind where the dining set is going to go.
- Cut down the oak tree that's next to the house.
- Pollard some of the remaining Birch trees and the single oak tree on the side. Cut down the leylandii on the left to 6 ft.
- Trim the Beech hedge.
- Enlarge the shade bed on the left of the house, put in Witchhazel among other things.
- Think about winter pots around the house.
