I have a temp assignment that should last for a couple of weeks. The commute is kind of rough as it's in the inner city and traffic is a bitch. I have about a five minute walk to the bus from home and a ten minute walk from the bus to work. The bus ride can take anything from 45 minutes to an hour and a half depending on traffic. I don't quite have the connections down yet so it took me till after 7:00pm to get home last night, hopefully it will be faster tonight as I now know from where I need to catch the bus home. I also need to buy an umbrella, go figure ;-) I'm working in a solicitors office as a secretary for now but this will give me time to catch my breath and find something better.

Need to get some work done now, I miss everyone dreadfully.

I have some time since they haven't given me much to do yet today so I thought I would post a few more details of life in the last two weeks.

On Tuesday we left home around 2:00pm to go the airport, unfortunately my plane to Chicago was delayed by an hour so I missed my Dublin connection. I spent that evening running around O'Hare airport with a very nice fellow passenger who had also missed the same flight. We ended up getting a cheap hotel room for the night and I fell into bed pretty much exhausted around 11:00pm. At 11:00am the next morning we had to leave the room and took the shuttle to the airport where we spent the next seven hours killing time by traveling from terminal to terminal and just generally hanging out. We made that flight and I arrived in one piece around 8:00am on Tursday morning, much to the relief of my parents and B whom we called from the airport to let him know I was ok.

We went straight to the new house where I unloaded my baggage and then turned around to go to my parents place where I had a much needed bowl of soup, a bath and then a sort of nap (I couldn't really sleep but it was good to lie down). That evening I got dropped of at home and I spent the first night in our new bed (which is unfortunately a double so quite small), I slept like a log until about 8:00am the next morning.

On Friday my Mom and I headed into Dublin with the bus as I had an interview with an agency at 11:am. The bus stop is about five minutes walk from my doorstep and buses run every 20 to 30 minutes. We spent the day shopping for things like towels and spatulas and I picked up an "Organic & Green Guide to Ireland" as well as a "Dublin on a Shoestring Guide". I did a kick ass typing test which apparently netted me the current secretarial assignment. That evening I got the electric and gas switched over to my name as well as the cable connected. Unfortunately the local cable does not have an internet option yet, perhaps next year they said. I also got a land line and a mobile phone.

The weekend was pretty mellow, I got the laundry done (no small feat with the washer dryer in the house which is filled up by two large towels ;-) On Sunday I helped my Mom in the garden. We transplanted the winter lettuce and repotted all the herbs that came over to my house (We now have parsley, chives, bernard, dill, borage, lavendar, rosmary, thyme, marjoram and lemon verbena). We also harvested a large crop of leeks some of which came home with me that night for leek soup (which was very tasty). There was some anxiety because I hadn't gotten my husbands e-mail saying he was delayed and wouldn't arrive in St. Louis till Tuesday evening. So I stayed up till 1:00pm in a vain effort to try to reach him at his parents house. I had left a message with his grandmother that afternoon giving her my phone number but she didn't let me know when she found out that he wasn't going to be there which was shortly after I had called her.

On Monday my Dad and I went to register with the unemployment people and to get a tax ID number as well as going on some shopping errands. While we were on the road the people I had interviewed with on Friday called and wanted me for an assignment that afternoon. Thankfully Dad could drop me off so I made it in time and spent the rest of the afternoon transcribing letters in a solicitors office. After some convoluted bus arrangments I got home a little after 7:00pm, ate and dropped into bed at 8:30pm.

That's it for now, if things continue to be quiet here, I should be able to post regularly till I get an internet connection at home.
