Toaster has been sitting on my desktop lately since my chair broke and I can't lean back to let her sit on my chest for long periods of time. So she keeps blocking the screen I'm working on following the cursor. I found some cat videos, no not that kind, videos made for cats and she's riveted. At first she kept trying to get behind the screen to see where these birds were going to, now she just lifts her paw up and pats at them. Today I started something with mice but she wasn't as engaged so I did another search and damn didn't she pick the one she wanted, lifted her paw and pointed at it and it's the video he was watching yesterday. She's so funny and smart and I love her.
Rollercoaster
Nov. 5th, 2020 09:16 pmIt's like we are on some demented funride that's no fun at all. Biden has a chance again, Trump is blustering about legal action and calling his devout followers to what basically amounts to civil war. How is this man not in jail?
On a personal note, Mom has been painting the chair, bookshelf, and spray painting the bed sted while I'm working. The oil paint will take till mid next week to cure but I may be able to move into the bedroom again on the weekend unless the smell is too bad. The chaos that had spilt out on the stairs and landing is once again tamed so things aren't nearly so unmoored as they were.
Poor Toaster still has a challenge getting in the cat door, she just doesn't quite have the critical mass yet and she hasn't figured out how to apply what bodyweight she has to get the damn door open.
And the last unconnected titbit is that I've discovered that acorn squash tastes pretty ok, gonna have to find some more recipes.

Toaster (the kitten)
Aug. 25th, 2020 10:41 amOur new family member has settled right in, she has her favourite spots; my daughter's bed & the window in the library, has been impeccable about using her litter box, and is an all-round engaging feline. I need to make arrangements for a vet visit to get her immunizations, from experience in the past that should happen around six months so that would put the vet visit in October, we're not sure exactly how old she is but that's a good estimate. I also need to look into pet insurance. I'm very happy she entered our lives, we'll see if another kitten in need of a home turns up soon failing that I'm told the vet we are looking to use often has kittens available just to keep her company.
A kitten has aquired my daughter as a pet
Aug. 15th, 2020 12:31 pmHer name is Toaster, no really, Toaster. Kate and one of her friends found Toaster and two siblings in a box in the car park where the friend's Mother works. They spent and age coaxing the tiny feral kittens into the car and they've been staying at the friend's house as my husband who has now left is quite allergic. Now he's gone, Toaster got to come home. We went on a big shopping trip getting all the necessaries and headed out with a cat carrier to retrieve the new family member who promptly bolted into the garden under the pressure of all the teenagers trying to catch her. I got to sit down for a nice chat with our neighbours (they live about 10-15min walk away from us). After a couple of hours, the kitten was secured and we headed home.
She's a tiny little black panther with a small tuft of white on her chest, she's quite delicately built and pretty chill. She went directly upstairs into Kate's bedroom just so we didn't stress her out. She peed on the girl's bed but was trained to use a litter box so I think it was just a bit of marking her territory (fingers crossed). Kate had already stripped the bed and I used some of the lavender pillow spray to cover any additional scent left behind.
Today she explored all around the downstairs heading up the staircase and down again on her own, no bother. She acquired quite the collection of dust bunnies, I wish I had gotten a clearer picture of that because it looked adorbs.
Now I'm downstairs on the computer and she's hanging out on the bath mat in the upstairs bathroom which she's apparently taken a liking to. I'm trying to figure out how old she is, definitely more than three months, my money would be on 4 months, I'll take her to the vet when I get paid next week to have her looked over, they'll probably be able to tell.
