You're certainly going to have a high attrition rate, but I think as long as you know that going in, it's ok - and if you're clear from the start that it won't suit everyone, you can probably avoid acrimony. Some of them will stick around in witchcraft/paganism/magic even if they're not Blue Star or Wiccan, and I reckon having allies about is good in the long term.
All that said, yes, it's a huge investment of energy, and also involves Dealing With People. My practices are mostly solitary and indeed mostly on the inside of my head these days, so I'm not really in a position to say "go do the Coven thing!" with any conviction.
