Hip Dysplasia
Oct. 17th, 2006 05:53 pmA lot of you already know that Katie was born with hip dysplasia and spent her first three months in a soft harness. Everything was fine when she had her last appointment with her US doctor but it has taken us till today to have a check up appointment. Unfortunately the Irish doctor is making noises about surgery, her left hip she says is at 25 degrees which is 5 degrees above normal (she can tell this without measuring apparently). This is considered borderline, not horrendously bad but not normal either. We will have another set of x-rays done in six months to see how the situation progresses. Please think good thoughts in Katie's direction, if she has surgery she will have to spend 6 weeks in a body cast. I don't even want to think about our active toddler whose favorite occupations are dancing and walking in a full body cast. We will most certainly get a second opinion before making any serious decisions and you'll probably hear more on this topic in the comming year.
