My four year old has been having trouble sleeping lately (we took away her soother) and she has been wired for sound until about 11pm for about a week and a half. The only thing that has been calming her down are my Wow stories. She has her favorites, like the time our intrepid Gnome Mage saved the Dam in Loch Modan (I often have to tell this one twice) but last night's was a real winner. Let me set the scene for you, she's supposed to be in bed I finally have some peace and quite and am gathering low level herbs near Ironforge to level my inscription. I hear the sound of little feet on the stairway and sure enough there she is, definitely not sleeping. Then the phone rings and an old friend from the States is calling so I sit Kate in front of the computer because really what are those boars and snow leopards going to do to my level 30ish character. She's learned how to move around in the game and knows that if you hit the 1 button my gnome gets out her big stick and whacks things. I'm on the phone and next I know it she's running around chasing down boars and killing the beasties as she calls them. She is most elated when she manages to down three at one time. She even starts looking for herbs for me, I have to help her use the mouse but really she was darn impressive.
The best part was later that night I'm sitting by her bedside and telling her the story of our intrepid Gnome Mage who on a herb hunting expedition was attacked my many beasties and how a little girl named Kate pointed her in the right direction and helped her defeat all opposition.
You should have seen her face, she was wriggling with pride.
