Jan. 17th, 2007 08:44 amI received this recipe from the lovely
julia_starz, it tastes amazing, I have made a small adjustment in that I add a lot more (about 1/4 cup) lemon juice, I like the zing it gives the end result. I have also used other fruit like plums and added some cinnamon it was also quite good.
Strawberry Cordial
3 cups fresh ripe strawberries, unblemished
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 cups 100-proof vodka
1 cup water
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon orange zest
1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
Wash and stem the strawberries. In a large bowl,
crush the strawberries with the sugar, cover with a
linen tea towel and let stand for about an hour.
Transfer the strawberry-sugar mixture to a clean
2-quart container. Add the vodka, water, lemon
juice and zest and the orange zest. Cover and let
stand for 2 days in a cool dark place for 2 days,
shaking several times a day. Strain the mixture
through a fine-mesh sieve, discard all solids.
Transfer cordial to a clean container and let stand
for about a week.
Strain through a coffee filter into another clean
container wtih a tight-fitting lid. Store in cool,
dark place for at least a month.
Yield - About a quart of cordial
