I love the ideas and concepts of Feng Shui (asian methods of guiding and regulating energy flow in your environment). My problem is that its a system based on a distinct confuscian patriarchal bias which contains stuff that is so not relevant to a Western mind or so not relevant to modern day life.
Granted many modern practitioners have modified the old techniques to reflect things such as the increased impact of roads and large buildings on the energy patterns of our living spaces. However there are things I have a hard time buying into, I can see how sharp corners and protruding edges are a problem but the idea that an uncovered bookshelf is anything but a joy to look at is foreign to me. I know that this system was developed before the advent of the flush toilet but could we please come up with some more useful interpretation of the rules than "stop using that toilet altogether". Bitch please, it's the only toilet in my house, you go pee in the garden.
I wish I already knew enough to really chow down on the meaty parts of this wonderful system and use the concepts and ideas in a way that fits my life and times. Oops, I guess that makes me eclectic ;-)
